TEKKO BUILDING Tackles SDGs and Building a Sustainable Future.

For a place where all shine brighter
“In a world of increasing social diversification, we are creating environmental value wherever people are active, and we are contributing to society.” This management philosophy inspired our adoption of 11 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our commitment to creating space that facilitates and augments the skills and joy of everyone – the essence of our corporate slogan: “For a place where all shine brighter”.

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Target

2.1End hunger and ensure access to safe, nutritious food.

Initiatives: Donate stored emergency food supplies to food banks.
TEKKO BUILDING always maintains a 3-day supply of emergency food sufficient for 2,000 people in case of a disaster. We regularly donate part of this stockpiled food to food banks that provide food and other assistance to welfare facilities and people in need. Through this measure, TEKKO BUILDING supports the building of food safety nets, and endeavors to mitigate corporate food waste.

Initiatives: Create a safe, comfortable environment by establishing the Tenant Service Center and providing business support services.
The Tenant Service Center on 2F ensures round-the-clock safety and comfort for tenants backed by attentive services based on the experience and know-how accrued since the founding of TEKKO BUILDING. The limousine bus station on 1F of the South Building with its direct connection to both Haneda and Narita airports combined with its next-door access to the megahub Tokyo Station and 22 JR and subway lines makes the building a base that connects tenants with cities nationwide and worldwide.
Boasting liberating spaciousness, relaxation booths and shower rooms, "Tekko Executive Lounge & Conference Room" facility on 4F of the South Building enhances tenant convenience with rental conference rooms with capacity up to 300 people, while a fitness club on 5F of the same building provides refreshing workout space.
People with disabilities have been requested to actually experience internal building flow lines and express their views and safety concerns which have been subsequently reflected in improvements. For example, free-standing signage in aisles which may pose an obstruction has been replaced with signage suspended from the ceiling and mounted on walls. In addition, all floors are equipped with "All Gender" barrier-free toilets that accommodate the needs of people with disabilities and ostomates.
All these facilities, services, and attention to detail create an environment that is safe to use, and comfortable for all workers and visitors.

About Tekko Building

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Target

12.2Achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.

12.5Reduce waste generation.

12.8Ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.

Initiatives: Reduce environmental load, reuse resources, and minimize waste in every step from construction to operation.
In the construction of TEKKO BUILDING, recycled steel frames, recycled crushed stone, and other recycled materials were proactively used. Waste materials generated during construction were also separated and processed, resulting in a recycling rate of higher than 90%. After opening, rainwater and wastewater from building equipment and facilities, restaurant kitchens, etc., are collected and processed in an underground water treatment facility, and then reused. In order to raise the waste recycling rate, all trash and waste is thoroughly separated for recycling. Twice annually, TEKKO BUILDING holds "Environmental Enhancement Month", during which all tenants contribute to reducing the environmental burden through energy saving, promotion of resource reuse by waste separation and other activities.

About Tekko Building

Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Target

15.1Ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services.

15.4Ensure the conservation of mountain ecosystems including their biodiversity.

15.5Take action to protect and prevent the extinction of threatened species.

Initiatives: Pursue greening using natural flora and promote ecosystem conservation through biotope creation.
Along the walking path on the west side of TEKKO BUILDING, efforts to restore and conserve nature seek to create a greenscape that would be authentically natural and native to the site. Drawing on research of the flora in the Imperial Palace grounds and the Institute for Nature Study in Shirokanedai, the TEKKO BUILDING site is planted with shirakashi (bamboo leaf oak), tabunoki (Japanese bay tree) and other trees and vegetation native to the Musashino region. In Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, a collaboration with affiliated companies has resulted in the creation of a vast biotope on78,000m2 of land owned by our company. Here environmental research on the relationship between vegetation and the ecosystem, and other studies related to the impact of surrounding environs on the site are being conducted. In addition, the endangered black medaka Japanese rice fish, which are indigenous to this biotope, serve as the focus of company-supported"medaka exchange meetings" with elementary and junior high schools around the world, and put the spotlight on the importance of nature and preserving the environment for the future.
